The Scout Association which is a charitable trust exists by authority of Royal Charters granted by King George V, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. The Patron of the Scout Association is Her Majesty the Queen.
The Scout Movement has in excess of 40 million members spread across more than 160 countries, making it the largest youth movement in the world. It has formal representation on the governing bodies of the major outdoor activities such as the Mountain Leader Training Board, the British Canoe Union and the Royal Yacht Association.
The aim of the Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
WLCSC, which currently looks after the interests of over 12,500 members, specialises in the organisation, administration, management and provision of outdoor education/activity centres. These include a water activities centre on the shores of Lake Windermere, and outdoor activities centres/campsites with residential accommodation in both Lancashire and Cumbria. WLCSC has substantial assets which necessitate a high level of business management, development planning and marketing. The facilities are also used by those with an interest in the National Curriculum, further education, higher education, commerce and industry.
The well-established infrastructure of support services provided by WLCSC includes expertise in company and employment law, the management of health and safety, activity legislation, insurance, the duty of care, community development, finance, marketing, public relations, estate management and developments in the educational arena.
